First Almadel Operation - Alphariza

Transcript of Magickal Operation:
Today is Sunday, July 20, 2025. Performing the operation outlined in Ars Almadel from "Lesser Key Of Solomon”, translated by Joseph H. Peterson.
I have moved to the back of my property trail facing south, and I have constructed according to the instructions of the Ars Almadel a set of red candles and a red wax Almadel inscribed per instructions.
The wax tablet will rest upon the protruding ledge of the four candles, under which is situated a stone red incense basin to hold charcoal and mastic.
The candles will be elevated on four glass cups inverted to give the tablet enough height above the incense burner so that it does not melt through the wax tablet.
The invocation and petition have been written out by hand onto virgin, thick pound drawing paper. The invocation copied from the text Ars Almadel and the petition written by the operator.
It's relatively quiet in the back portion of the property. It is a temperate to warm day. There's the occasional sound of planes, cars, but they're in the distance.
Facing the south is the large unoccupied, wooded hill range bordering my property. And, there are really no other visible human buildings or people for 300 or 400 yards, looks like.
So relatively secluded, shaded area, facing the Southern Hill Range. I have been in a more… “elevated sense” than usual. A spiritual anticipation of today.
I've been working towards making the Almadel and performing this operation for probably a couple of months, having to order the supplies and construct them.
I am suspending any disbelief regarding the religious nature of the operation and investing myself as fully as possible into the all-hearted belief in it and in the spirit and angels and God.
Over the course of the last week, I have made several prayers to the Lord and tried to reset my internal feelings about religion and Christianity in particular.
Yesterday, I felt quite odd, and a little bit out of it as if I had ingested a little bit of marijuana or something, which I had not. At least for several days and certainly not yesterday.
Yesterday, later on, I had one beer. Otherwise, I am completely sober, especially as of right now, twenty four hours since then.
I don't have very much red clothing. So I'm wearing my usual black pants and a gray long shirt with a red plaid jacket, white hat, with the assumption that in absence of matching red colors for the Chora, neutral tones would be acceptable.
I chose to perform the operation outside, for increased quiet and solitude.
I am setting myself down on a red and orange quilt laid down on the trail, and will be setting up the Almadel just off the edge of the quilt on the ground where I will be kneeling and performing the operation.
I am electing to start without using the crystal stone, which is only briefly alluded to in the Almadel instructions, although I have brought one in a bag if I should be instructed or intuit to use it.
It's a clear quartz crystal stone, approximately two inches in diameter, which I've previously used in small experiments attempting a little of John Dee’s operation. No. It wasn't John Dee…
It was from Vision and the Most Honorable Book of Magic’s recommendation on summoning angels, although I did not perform all of the recommended steps. So the stone is relatively unused or uncharged with previous spiritual energy.
I'm breaking the charcoal tablet in half since it's rather large, and I think that may be an excessive amount of charcoal. Looks like I should be able to maneuver it under the tablet when I want to light it.
Inscription of the tablet was actually more difficult than I anticipated because of the rather sticky residual nature of the wax remnants that come up during inscription. But I ultimately did succeed in inscribing the instructed symbology and lettering names of god using a sharpened needle point such as would be used in clay modeling.
To the south, I am orienting the "Helion Helomi Heli" edge of the Almadel.
It’s a little bit difficult with the elevated glass cups since they're a little bit unstable on the ground itself. I was able to eventually get a flattish place to rest the tablet.
The tablet is elevated about eight inches above the incense. I have a gold talisman as instructed.
Is a gold plated brass, and in reverse are inscribed the names "Hellion, Hellujon, Adonai", with the intention that it can be impressed upon the wax of the candle to leave behind the imprinted names. The talisman is laid in the center of the hexagram of the Almadel.
Preparing three little pearls of mastic, which is approximately a 100mg, or three grains as described.
I felt somewhat stressed this morning. I'm a little bit irritable. So I'm entering into a little bit of meditation to calm my spirit.
When I first left the house with my magical ritual supplies, a hawk across the road began calling and flew overhead away to the West.
A couple of days earlier, I heard what is probably the same hawk with one of its family members, I assume, swooping low and calling in a manner I've not seen them do before.
I'm not sure what it was doing. But today, it seemed auspicious. I've been reading “Gateways Through Light and Shadow” by Frater Ashen Chassan and been quite inspired by their successes in their operations.
I began reading it after committing myself to the construction of an Almadel. I'm trying to set aside expectations of how angels and spirits may communicate with me as recommended by Frater Ashen Chassan.
[Kneels, lights candles, and reads the invocation of Alphariza. Had to restart the invocation after noting an incorrect attribution to the East rather than the South.]
[No noticeable spirit presence. Attempted to make marks upon the candles using the talisman. But there is no particular way to do so. All wax is hard, except for the liquid wax right by the flame. I decide to try making a few small scratches on the candle with a sharp edge of the talisman, but this feel unsatisfactory.]
[Second reading of the invocation.]
[No noticeable spirit presence. This time I try to encourage some liquid wax to drip down the candle so that I can imprint it with the talisman. But the wax simply adheres to the talisman and dries rather than leaving an impression.]
[Intones the name Alphariza repeatedly. It becomes songlike. Inspired to try the invocation again, in the form of a song.]
[No noticeably spirit presence. Decided to continue on with the reception and petition.]
[Reception:]
I desire that my request be granted and the contents thereof may be accomplished, for your offices may appear and declare that such as to be done by you if it pleases God. And I recommend myself wholly into your office.
And I pray unto your princes of this altitude that I may enjoy and obtain all things according to my wishes and desires.
[Petition:]
O thou great and mighty Alphariza, how overjoyed that you have been able to meet with me.
I have greatly desired your company. I desire that you increase my magical power such that my petitions and spells are successful. I desire that you bless me to be able to clearly see, hear, and command the spirits.
The outcomes of my petitions and spells will be for the good. My abilities now are only humble. Grant me success and joy in these operations that my life may be to the betterment of everyone.
Slake my deep curiosity of the spiritual and grant me access to the divine realms of knowledge. Enkindle within me the flames of ability and motivation.
In the name of our God, Adonai, Helomi, Pine, Amen.
[No indication of spiritual presence. I alternately pray earnestly and silently for Alphariza’s appearance and verbally entreat Alphariza to join me. Some personal feelings and thoughts are confessed.]
I beseech thee with my entire being that you may come down and entreat with me. I desire from you the things that your offices are able to grant, and I ask for only things that are within your power and under God's mercy to do so.
For what I want to do is for the betterment of all people, the betterment of my soul, and satisfaction of my spirit.
In the name of Adonai, Helomi, Pine, Amen.
[Post operation]
The candles worked well. The instructions to make marks upon the candles with the talisman did not seem to make a lot of sense. There was no hot wax available to make some sort of dramatic imprint. So at first, I tried just making a handful of scratches with the sharp edge of the talisman on the candle. Later I tried getting a little of the hot wax to dribble down the side using the talisman, but it doesn't really make an imprint. It just binds to the talisman and maybe smears off on the candle.
So I'll need to look more into what exactly is meant by the idea of making a mark upon the candle.
I chose to use the exact zodiacal station of the sun today, which corresponds to Alphariza. But the instructions in the Ars Almadel seem to be using the zodiac in rough correlation with the months, implying that Aries is associated with all of March, not just starting in mid-March.
So next time, I might try aligning the invocation with the cruder medieval associations of the months rather than the actual strict zodiacal system.
The underside of the tablet does not appear affected by the heat of the coals at eight inches, so it might be possible to experiment with putting the candles on the ground, not elevated on the cups.
The closest I felt any type of spiritual presence was sometimes larger moments of quiet when it seemed all of the surrounding ambient noise decreased.
Some of the little aphids and bugs and stuff seemed interested in the candles or the wax or something and came over to crawl along it. I wondered if that was some type of spiritual contact that was maybe trying to happen, but I don't know about that. They were cute though, and dance from side to side.
Sometimes the wind would rustle through the trees in a way that seemed like some type of spiritual contact.
But, otherwise, I only had a great sense of anticipation that every click in the forest was a footstep of an approaching angel and repeatedly was disappointed when nothing occurred.
And then I thought to try to channel my disappointment into a period of quiet, intense prayer and almost pitiable beseeching that I needed to see Alphariza.
I was thinking that about the description of the angel’s appearance: “he descends first upon the subscription of the Almadel as if it were a mist or fog”. I'm not sure if that's describing maybe the heat waves coming off of the candles? Sometimes when they would be at a particular angle or the wind was still or moving a certain way, the the radiant heat from the candles was pretty large and would cause visual distortions that could seem hallucinatory or were prime areas for an angel to make a visual appearance.
So I would focus on those sometimes if I could see them, but I didn't often see them, and nothing ever did materialize in them.
And it seems strange to describe that as a mist. The mist would have to be something the author would not associate with just natural fire. They'd be intimately familiar with the appearance of non-supernatural fire in that day and age.
Later that day my disappointment faded a little bit and was replaced by a determination to get it right and to try again next Sunday. I knew going in that it may take many tries, and I shouldn’t get discouraged. It is better to consider it a practice run and to accept what may happen or not.
Outcomes
7/21/2025: Potentially related, the next morning while awakening and still dozing, I decided to take advantage of my mental state to practice some astral projection. I had the unusual experience of flashes of an exceedingly clear colored image - like a photograph being held up before my eyes and then taken away. Usually my internal visions are more laboriously constructed and not as sharp and clear as that. I do not remember specifically what the image was now - a couple of people doing something.
